Responsibility at MILLWA
For us, sustainability and social responsibility are not just trends, but the very foundation of MILLWA. We believe in a fashion industry that treats people, animals and nature with respect.
Transparency regarding materials
Our collections are based on the world’s most precious fibre: alpaca. A renewable resource: alpacas are ‘gentle’ grazing animals that do not damage the ground and feed on natural grass. Purity: We focus on natural qualities (such as 100% baby alpaca) and durable designs to counteract the ‘fast fashion’ cycle.
Ethical Sourcing & Animal Welfare
Animal welfare is our top priority. This applies throughout our entire supply chain:
- Virgin wool: Our wool is sourced using traditional methods that minimise stress on the animals.
- Fur products (Ethical Fur): We guarantee that our fur accessories and home textiles are made exclusively from the fur of animals that have died of natural causes or were obtained as a by-product of food production.
We strictly reject any form of animal husbandry solely for the purpose of fur production.
Social Responsibility & Fair Trade
MILLWA sees itself as a partner to the people of the Peruvian Andes. The majority of alpacas are kept by small farming families who often live in harsh conditions.
- Income security: Through fair purchase prices and initiatives to utilise animals that have died (due to extreme weather), we help to secure the economic livelihoods of these families.
- Empowerment: We work with producers who reinvest a portion of their profits directly into local social projects and healthcare for the herds.
